“It’s now a happy place to be,” John says. Playing
up the natural light and sticking to a color palette made the room work. Since it
lacked architectural interest, he installed crown moldingand chunky white
window shutters. The green, orange, and yellow colors visually tie the room
together. “Adheringto a color palette creates cohesion and keeps accessories
from looking cluttered,” he says.
LIGHT BRIGHT
White painted walls
reflect natural light
and make the room
seem larger.
SOFA SMARTS
A love seat is a place
to plop down at the
end of the day. And
it unfolds into a twin
bed to turn the area
into a guest room.
OPEN UP
John chose the
acrylic coffee table
and rattan chair
because they don’t
eat up visual space.
“Airy furniture lets
you see through
things and makes
the room feel more
open,” he says.
CUSTOM FIT
An area rug lightens
the wood floors. To
get the right size,
John joined two
